Riders have been busy during the track closure

Published: 7 October 2009

While the track's been closed, many of our regular riders have been busy elsewhere - none more so than Janet Birkmyre who took the European Masters Points Race and Sprint titles - and beating fellow Reading regular Jayne Paine to take the Pursuit Gold.

Eddie Soberalski won the Minor Final to take 5th place in the 45-49 age group in the Sprint competition, while David Jack made it through to the Bronze Medal ride-off in 40-44 competition but just missed out on a medal. Lee Povey went one better and made the final of 35-39s, taking the Silver medal, before taking Gold with Team Terminator in the Open Team Sprint.

At the Youth Nationals, John Paul flew the flag taking Silver in the Junior Sprint (he's still an Under 16) having qualified with what is believed to be the fastest ever 200m time by an Under 16 - 11.082 seconds. He followed that up with Golds in both the Under 16 Sprint and 500m Time Trials and 4th in the Junior Keirin.

Also taking a National Title was Dan Maslin, who secured the Under 14 Omnium title to match the National Circuit Race title he won earlier in the season.

Harriet Owen qualified second for the Under 16 Sprints, but could only manage 5th in the Sprint competition itself. She went one better in the Pursuit, taking 4th place and picked up a Bronze medal in the Points race and a Silver medal in the Scratch race as well as a very creditable 4th in the Junior Points race.

Harriet also took Silver in the Sprint at the UK Youth Games in Cardiff in September. And, with fellow Track League regular Natalie Hill, took Gold in the Madison and the Team Pursuit. John Paul was in the medals again, too, taking the both the Sprint and 500m Time Trial titles - and just missed out in the Team Sprint where he and Stephen Bradbury took 4th.
