Reading Track Cycling League News from John Dennis
A Bank holiday break with a difference ? for Endurance bike riders - is offered on Monday May 2nd by Reading Velodrome Racing when the Track League brings the start time for its regular Monday race programme forward from 7 p.m. to 1 p.m. It is a fixture with a real difference containing a two stage 50 kilometre event, sponsored by Reading?s leading cycle store, A.W.Cycles of Caversham aptly titled a ?Bordeaux ? Paris? style since it follows the same pattern as the famous French Classic road race.
Stage One will see a field of 40 riders start a 20 kilometre scratch race ? the first 8 over the finish line in a sprint after 40 laps will qualify for Stage Two, a 30 kilometre Derny paced Motor paced race. The remainder will finish the scratch race at the end of another 4 laps. The paced race will get under way as soon as riders have stepped up their gears for the high speed competition.
Reading Velodrome Racing has a guest rider membership category (£2) in addition to its regular membership so visiting riders are expected, especially as Herne Hill Stadium in London is not operating and competitors who usually race there seek action.
The Bordeaux ? Paris event is the highlight of a full afternoon programme for Youths, Ladies, Juniors and Seniors, comprising, Scratch, Sprint, Handicap and Points racing.
