At last! The dominance of the AW Cycles 20 kms Endurance series at Palmer Park Velodrome by Londoner Bryan Taylor was cracked in an inches on the line snatch by last year?s League Champion young Lewis Atkins, Glendene/Bike Trax. It was the culmination of the season?s fastest Endurance test, with the 20 kms covered in 27 minutes 40 secs, brought about by numerous attacks from top caliber riders such as Rob English, Rob Richardson, Tim Bedingfield, Alex Peterson, Neil Cooper, Tom Smith and the Willesden team led by Roger Woodford.

It would be difficult for anyone to dislodge Bryan Taylor now from his yellow jersey leaders position in the event , for the season is half completed and he has an overwhelming points score in the charts. As the action drew to a close Taylor was again at the head of the charge up the home straight to the finish line with Atkins and Richardson breathing down his neck. Junior, Atkins, now showing signs of full recovery from injuries, thrust his wheel ahead as they crossed the line to make up a near photo finish.

It was a night of surprises, for while Lee Povey who hails from Brighton, was favourite to win the British cycling Central Division?s Sprint Championship and did not disappoint, he was overturned in the similar length League Sprint race of the night, by Alex Peterson, AW Cycles. While Povey had to pull everything out to overcome Willesden CC?s Roger Woodford to win the Divisional Championship. Peterson delivered a surprise by racing away from the start. Povey, a pure sprinter, had the task of chasing him which is not his style, and the local man never lost his advantage. Tom Smith, another local, now racing for the Vinerbikes/Agisko team made his reappearance at the Velodrome, a worthwhile visit, by taking third spot.

Joe Bayfield?s return, which was registered last week, when he appeared in the colours of the AW Cycles team is showing signs of his former winning ways when he pushed Bryan Taylor and Lewis Atkins at the end of an exciting Devil take the Hindmost race. Another name to note for the future is Gareth Dickenson, now in the Agiskoviner.com team and still a junior, for he has transferred to senior competition and is scoring point winning places. He started the evening with a win in the B riders 10 lap race, and took a second in the 500 metres scratch after challenging Fleet rider Steve Benton, Team trackcycling.com.
