29 September – Senior Race Report

Posted on by and filed under 2014.

With the Indian summer in full swing, riders assembling for the final track league meeting of the year were met with warm and muggy conditions – even if the first race of the night was started under floodlights due to the failing light. The darkness did not deter many riders, however: the warm-up area at […]

22 September – Senior Race Report

Posted on by and filed under 2014.

The sun was already setting as riders assembled for the penultimate track league meeting of the year. Any semblance of warmth did not last past the first scratch race, and riders were soon reaching for armwarmers and tights. Nevertheless, still conditions prevailed for an exciting night of racing. The first race of the evening was […]

Dernyfest and Omnium Race Report

Posted on by and filed under 2014.

Derny competition The first derny heat saw Oliver Moors (Speg – Project 51) take to the front of the race from the first lap, and never look back. Moors, who was second to Matt Gittings at the Welwyn event in June, looked untroubled throughout the 22 laps. The only rider to bother Moors was Symon […]

8 September 2014 – Senior Race Report

Posted on by and filed under 2014.

After weeks of events being rained off (or nearly rained off), it is somewhat ironic that now we have entered the autumnal season, riders were greeted with conditions which were some of the warmest of the season. The warm conditions certainly brought out the crowds tonight: 29 riders started the first race of the evening, […]

4 August 2014 – Race Report

Posted on by and filed under 2014.

Once again, drizzle lingered in the air for the fourteenth track league of the season. However, if any of the many absent riders were secretly wishing for rain to halt racing in order to stagnate the points situation for a week, they obviously did not wish hard enough and racing went ahead as planned – […]

28 July 2014 – Race Report

Posted on by and filed under 2014.

Drizzle lingered in the air for the 13th meeting of the season. However, the ambient conditions meant any droplets dried quickly and racing could go ahead as normal. The first event of the evening was the C riders 6 lap scratch race. 16 riders lined up at the start of the race and, as soon […]

21 July 2014 – Race Report

Posted on by and filed under 2014.

After weather had dominated concerns about Monday night track league over recent weeks,  was a relief for riders to arrive at Palmer Park and be able to concentrate solely on the racing rather than what the clouds were going to deliver. The first event of the evening was the C riders’ six lap scratch race […]

14 July 2014 – Race Report

Posted on by and filed under 2014.

Report by – Rachael Elliott After a beautifully warm day, the clouds and wind descended on Palmer Park just as the racing was started. Nevertheless, with no rain promised, we looked set to have a night of fine racing ahead – albeit a little breezy. The first race of the evening was the C riders’ […]

7 July 2014 – Race Report

Posted on by and filed under 2014.

There’s something about Mondays. Yet another league meeting threatened with rain, and yet another afternoon of “will it rain?” or “will it shine?” questioning. It was perhaps the drizzly footage of the final British stage of the Tour de France in London earlier in the afternoon which deterred many riders from attending but those that […]

30 June 2014 – Race Report

Posted on by and filed under 2014.

Another week, another Monday filled with “will it rain/won’t it rain” anxiety. Thankfully we had the weather gods on our side, and the evening’s racing went ahead without a drop of rain hitting the track. Although the junior riders had a strong presence in the evening’s racing, the senior ranks were heavily depleted with just […]

23 June 2014 – Race Report

Posted on by and filed under 2014.

With rain once again threatening to kybosh the evening’s racing according to most weather forecasts, riders were treated to beautifully warm and still conditions – whilst the rest of Berkshire was being battered by storms and flash flooding. For once, it did seem like the weather gods had taken a shine to track cycling. The […]

16 June 2014 – Race Report

Posted on by and filed under 2014.

Rained off Monday night track meetings have sadly become quite a trend this year and, when the clouds started to roll in as 7pm approached, we did wonder if the evening would become yet another casualty of the meteorological Gods. However, it was lucky meeting number seven for the riders and the rain did hold […]

19 May 2014 – Race Report

Posted on by and filed under 2014.

Palmer Park was drenched in sunshine for the fourth event of the year and, with car thermometers reading 22 degrees as riders left the park, it was one of those rare evenings where the air held the temperature right through to nightfall. This was perhaps useful – a night of sprints and pursuits meant a […]

12 May 2014 – Race Report

Posted on by and filed under 2014.

With looming skies greeting riders for the third Reading Track League meeting of 2014, the chances of enjoying a full evening’s racing seemed slim. The first race of the night was the C league scratch race. A huge field of 36 riders started the race. Sadly, a severe crash in the final lap involving some […]
